Faestus is a gnome from Pellanon. He was one of the Persephone's greatest inventors, but for reasons unknown, he was banished from his homeland. After his banishment, he ran away and hid under the protection of his brother, Thestor, who would be later punished for harboring his fugitive brother. Faestus then traveled to the neighboring land of Daven to join Pyro's forces. Other gnomes followed his example, later to be converted to Pyromaniacs.
Faestus is later seen right after the conquest of Urghaz, homeland of the trolls. Since Pyro says that the Gnomes are suffering under the brutish Trolls, it appears Faestus has convinced Pyro to make this move, knowing the prolonged conflicts between the Gnomes and Trolls. Faestus and Ambassador Buta then enslave all the young trolls and convert them into firefists. Faestus then began his biggest and most ambitious project: The Pyrodraulic Dynamo™ . Pyro sent both him and Sorcha to gather slaves in Orgren for the machine, but the Empress refused to be part of it, feeling guilty about the suffering of the slaves. So Pyro sent Eldred instead, and also to bring Sorcha home and finish the job of gathering the slaves. Faestus finished his creation in Cindercrag, which would be attacked by James's wizard (or wizards, depending on missions chosen).
From this moment his fate depended on which god Eldred served. If the player continued to play with Pyro, Faestus will be defending the Dynamo, and then he will join Eldred's army for the rest of the game (unless the player changed sides and joined Stratos in the last mission). If the player chose to serve Persephone, James or Charnel, Faestus will show up in Helios to cowardly betray Pyro and reveal the weakness of the magnifryers (which probably are his creations), then he will remain on Eldred's side for the rest of the game (again, unless the player changes his alliance with the gods). If the player chooses to serve Stratos, Faestus's fate is unknown. He might have died when Charnel desecrated Pyro's main altar, or he could have switched sides and died when Eldred defeated Charnel. Regardless of how the game ends, Faestus is most likely dead.
Feastus is the shortened form of Hephaestus, the Greek god of fire, technology, and metallurgy, amongst other things.
